Abstract

The interest in investing in stocks has increased in recent years. Gotrade app launched to address this increasing interest. Gotrade Daily is a newsletter that provides recent information about stocks that are traded in Gotrade application. Effectiveness of the Gotrade Daily newsletter as the main reference for investors is the focus on this research. The effectiveness of Gotrade Daily newsletter can be calculated by measuring the correlation between its news sentiment and stock price changes. News sentiment is calculated using rule-based approach by combining two libraries, Loughran-McDonald dictionary and VADER (Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner) dictionary. The obtained sentiment scores could be correlated with its stock price changes, using Pearson correlation and Spearman correlation. From the results of several experiments that have been conducted, it was concluded that there is almost no connection between stock news and the closing value of the following day. So that the news published in the Gotrade Daily newsletter cannot be relied on as the only consideration for making decisions to invest in certain stocks.
